Beach Bunx Riddim – Uim Records

Anju Blaxx’s UIM Records was active across 2012 with a steady run of dancehall and soca-connected juggling projects, and Beach Bunx sits right in that stretch. The riddim landed on August 7, 2012 and came as a 13-track set with a version cut, putting the instrumental itself in play rather than treating the songs as loose singles.

Beach Bunx has a bright, sunlit bounce and a party-ready swing, the kind of rhythm that leaves room for both flirtation and badman talk. The lineup reflects that split. Popcaan’s “Mi Baby Dat” and Charly Black’s “Herbalist Holiday” carry the most immediate crossover pull, while Demarco’s “Nuh Worry” and Munga’s “Buss Inna Head” push the harder edge. Chico, D’Angel, Propa Fade, Kanambo, Chinador, Blak Diamon and Supa Hype all add different shades to the juggling, with Supa Hype’s feature cuts giving the riddim some extra crew energy.

What makes the release work is that UIM did not overload it with one-note party songs. “Party Over Here” and “Raving Time” keep the energy loose, but the sharper cuts keep the riddim from drifting into pure beach-bliss filler. Munga’s edit and raw versions underline how well the groove holds up when the lyrics get rougher, and Popcaan’s cut gives the set the kind of voice that helped a 2012 juggling travel beyond the core dancehall crowd.
