BAD MONGRELL RIDDIM produced by SHOCKING VIBES 1997
Bad Mongrell Overview
In 1997, the Bad Mongrell riddim came from the studio of SHOCKING VIBES, one of Jamaica’s most respected dancehall producers. SHOCKING VIBES is known for launching big names in dancehall and was the label behind Beenie Man’s early rise. Their style mixed heavy bass and catchy melodies, making their riddims popular in clubs and on the radio. On the Bad Mongrell riddim, a group of top artists came together. Tanto Metro brought his smooth style to “Girls Best Friend.” He is best known for the hit “Everyone Falls In Love” with Devonte, which reached the Billboard charts and helped take dancehall international. Beenie Man, called the “King of Dancehall,” added his energy with “Bass And Drum.” He later won a Grammy Award in 2001 for Best Reggae Album, showing his lasting impact. Silver Cat delivered “Hot Gal Dem,” keeping the vibe lively with his unique voice. Little Kirk, who started singing as a child and is the brother of Beenie Man, sang “The Way.” Devonte, who also found fame with Tanto Metro, gave fans “Only You.” Each artist used the riddim’s strong beat to show their own style. Snagga Puss added “The Hoop,” and the instrumental “Bad Mongrell” version let the riddim shine on its own. This beat was a favorite at sound clashes, where sound systems battled for the crowd’s attention. Looking back, this yard beat kept dancehall alive in 1997 and is still remembered by fans today.
