Robert Dixon was born on 11 March 1961 in Kingston Jamaica. Dixon arrived at King Jammy’s in 1985 at the same time as Stevie & Clevie. He took an important role in the studio and in the process was a major boost to many artists’ careers. This included the likes of Cocoa Tea, Chaka Demus, Shabba Ranks, Admiral Bailey, Sanchez and others. In 1988, Dixon left to build his own studio and to set up  the Digital B label at the same time forming the Heatwave sound system. Here Shabba Ranks had hits like “Wicked in Bed” and “Gal Yuh Good”. By the year 1991, Digital B had accumulated new talent to his label and these included Tony Rebel, Mad Cobra, Penny Irie and Shaka Shamba alongside Gregory Isaacs, Johnny Osbourne and Cornell Campbell. Dixon’s production success was evident in 1991 through the album of Admiral Tibet, Sanchez and Pinchers. In 1992, Garnet Silk recorded his debut album and a number of singles with Digital B. By then Dixon was producing material for the international market such as Shabba Ranks, Mad Cobra, Tiger and Buju Banton. In 1993, he produced high standard albums by Gled Ricks, Cocoa Tea, Gregory Isaacs and Sugar Minnot. Dixon created riddims for Shabba Ranks in 1994 which were meant to re-establish his dancehall career. Dixon dies on 21 may 2020 in Kingston.
