CURFEW RIDDIM produced by LYNX PRODUCTIONS 1999
Curfew Overview
Back in 1999, the Curfew Riddim was a big sound in dancehall parties, especially late at night. This bashment release had a beat that was both heavy and smooth, different from some of the sharper, digital rhythms of the late ‘90s. Other bashment riddims from that time, like the Playground and Showtime riddims, were faster and more aggressive. Curfew Riddim stood out because it was groovy and easy to dance to, but still had a strong energy. Buccaneer’s “No Gal Can Wuk Inna Yuh Shoes” was one of the main songs on this riddim. Buccaneer was already known for his unique pirate style and hits like “Bruk Out.” Gabrielle’s “Long Plain And Straight” brought a fresh female voice to the mix. Red Rat, who had a big hit with “Shelly Ann” earlier in his career, gave us “Denise” on this riddim. T.O.K. added their group energy with “Curfew,” showing off their harmonies. Each artist used the beat in their own way, but the riddim kept everything tied together. LYNX PRODUCTIONS produced the Curfew Riddim. They were known for working with rising and established dancehall artists and helped bring a crossover sound to dancehall. The sound engineer made sure every track was balanced and hit hard in the clubs. DJs loved to play this riddim because it kept the crowd moving all night.
