ONE MAN ONE VOTE RIDDIM produced by GREENSLEEVES RECORDS 1991
One Man One Vote Overview
The One Man One Vote Riddim brought a lively, party mood to dancehall in 1991. The sound was full of energy, perfect for late-night dances and crowded clubs. Selectors loved the fresh style, using it to keep crowds moving and excited. Bunny Rugs set the tone with his songs "One Man One Vote" and "Warning." Bunny Rugs was well known for his work as the lead singer of Third World, a band famous for hits like "Now That We Found Love." Cocoa Tea, respected for classics such as "Rikers Island," joined with "Reach Out Speak Out," adding his smooth voice to the riddim. Dean Fraser, a top Jamaican saxophonist, brought "New Page In History," showing his skill that made him one of reggae’s most trusted session musicians. Dennis Brown, often called the "Crown Prince of Reggae," added "No More Walls." His long career included hits like "Money in My Pocket" and a Grammy nomination. Hopeton Lindo came in with "The Word," known in the reggae scene for writing and performing songs since the 1980s. Other artists on the riddim included Leroy Gibbon with "Stand Up," Mikey Melody with "We No Want It," Pad Anthony with "It Nah Go So," and Shabba Ranks with "Build Bridges." This project was produced by GREENSLEEVES RECORDS, a UK label famous for bringing Jamaican dancehall to the world. Greensleeves helped launch many reggae stars and was key in spreading the sound of yard studios.
