That Yard Bass cut comes in lean and punchy, with a stripped dancehall groove that leaves plenty of room for the deejays to work the pocket. The big pull here is the line-up: Vybz Kartel turns up twice, first alongside Mr Vegas on “Wining” and then solo on “Hot Shot, ” while Leftside and Esco keep the energy rolling with “Phat So” and Teflon brings a harder edge on “Dem Diss. ” Even the comic tilt of Einstein’s “Wine Pon My Cock” and the crowd-call feel of Cutty and Tornado’s “Everybody Dance Dance” fit the riddim’s cheeky, bashment-minded pulse. The instrumental “Yard Bass Version” closes it out cleanly, and you can hear why this 2007 set was built for sound system play.
