Work Off Overview

Roots sessions in 2008 found a natural groove when the Work Off Riddim came together in the studio. The producers at IRIEVIBRATIONS RECORDS wanted to make something uplifting, with conscious lyrics and positive melodies. IRIEVIBRATIONS RECORDS is an Austrian reggae label founded in 2003. They are known for working with many respected reggae artists and bringing European attention to roots reggae music. On the Work Off Riddim, each artist brought their unique style. Jah Mason delivered “Create A System,” with his well-known passionate voice and spiritual messages. Jah Mason is recognized for his popular song “My Princess Gone.” Sojah came in with “U R The Wife,” blending smooth vocals over the rhythm—Sojah is a group that includes Konshens, who later had solo hits like "Gal A Bubble." Luciano’s “Feeling For Love” added classic roots energy; Luciano, also called The Messenjah, has a Grammy nomination for his album "A New Day." Burro Banton gave a raw sound with “Run The Street Red.” Burro Banton is famous for dancehall classics like "Boom Wah Dis" and has been a big name in the scene since the late 1980s. Chezidek’s “I Got To Go” kept things conscious and melodic. Chezidek is best known for his song "Leave De Trees," which was featured on Grand Theft Auto IV's soundtrack—a major milestone. Each song on the Work Off Riddim showed how reggae could stay true to its roots while reaching new listeners.
