Love Bird Riddim – Irievibrations Records

Back in 2006, Irievibrations Records was lining up some of reggae’s most dependable voices on Love Bird Riddim, a nine-song set that keeps the spotlight on songcraft rather than gimmicks. Luciano’s “Living My Life” and Anthony B’s “Cry Blood” give the rhythm its roots-conscious backbone, while Gyptian’s “Stepping Higher” and Morgan Heritage with Iriepathie’s “Never Give Up” tilt it toward the uplifted, sing-jay side of the room. There’s a nice through-line in the way the one-drop pulse leaves space for each singer to lean into the hook, and Leroy Smart’s “For Real” adds that veteran calm that younger cuts can’t fake. A tidy little 2006 slice of the era, right down to Mr Perfect’s title track at the center of it.
