Big Ship Records’ Tremor Riddim landed in 2007, with Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor steering the production from the family imprint that Freddie McGregor built into one of dancehall’s more reliable camps. By then, Stephen had already earned a reputation for sharp, modern riddim work, and Tremor fits squarely in that lane: tense, digitally driven, with a rattling low end and a clipped, rolling bounce that leaves plenty of room for fast-mouthed deejays.

The cut list gives the riddim its shape. Aidonia comes in twice with “Ras It Up (Gagagaga)” and “Wine, ” which suits a period when his rapid-fire delivery was becoming a calling card. Assassin and Mr. Easy join forces on “Big Man Ting, ” a pairing that balances Assassin’s hard-edged precision with Mr. Easy’s smoother singjay touch. Bling Dawg’s “Mi Guh Suh” keeps the energy street-level and playful, while Bramma’s “Talk Dem Ah Talk” works the riddim’s nagging pulse into an anti-chat posture. Bugle and Demarco’s “Nuh Join Dat” brings a more measured, message-minded angle, and Chino’s “Rise It” adds a brighter, more melodic lift. Craig Dennis closes the circle with “Dem Ah Actor, ” a title that feels right for a riddim built for talk, style, and cutting commentary.

As a juggling set, Tremor works because it is less about a single anthem than about how each voice frames the same sharp, nervous groove differently. That is the Big Ship touch here: clean construction, strong personalities, and enough pressure in the beat to make each performance count.
