Goldmind keeps this one raw and road-ready, with a hard, metallic dancehall swing that leaves plenty of room for the voices to cut through. Old Iron Riddim comes loaded with 12 cuts and an instrumental, and the best ears catch the push-and-pull between the tougher selectors like Determine’s “Tell Dem, ” Shane O’s “People A Bawl, ” and Natural Black’s “Talk Talk. ” There’s a clear echo here of the producer’s earlier juggling style: enough variety in the voicing to keep the riddim moving, but the same no-nonsense presentation that lets each artist step up and say their piece. Goldmind Productions had already been building a catalog around straight-ahead dancehall instrumentals, and Old Iron sits neatly among those releases as one of the tougher, more vocal-driven entries.
