Dark Shadow Riddim – Various Artists

Out of the 2007 dancehall traffic, Dark Shadow Riddim feels like one of those compact juggling sets that catches you on the strength of the names alone: Mavado, Vybz Kartel, Teflon and Monarky all cut two versions each, radio and raw, so the vibe moves straight between clean-edged exposure and tougher street pressure. Mavado’s “Road Model” has that sharp, commanding pull he was riding so well in that era, while Kartel’s “My Scheme” gives the set its coldest corner, all sly intent and clipped talk. It’s a small lineup, just four artists across eight cuts, but that keeps the focus tight and the Dark Shadow name hanging over the whole thing, almost like a warning.
