By 2008, roots-minded reggae was still giving room to hard-cut consciousness tunes, and Maximum Sound’s The Session Riddim sits right in that pocket with a line-up that pairs veteran force and younger fire. Anthony B’s “Enter The Kingdom Of Zion” alongside Horace Andy brings a spiritual weight to the set, while Tarrus Riley’s “Jah Help Our Souls” and Chezidek’s “Bullet Clown” lean into the same serious mood over a warm, rolling foundation that nods to Black Uhuru’s “Party In Session, ” the older cut that inspired the riddim. Burro Banton adds his rough-edged chant on “Lef Them To Time, ” and Fantan Mojah keeps the pressure on with “Tell Lie Pon Rasta, ” all of it moving through a version cut at the end that lets the rhythm breathe on its own. The release was issued on October 10, 2008, with six vocal cuts plus the instrumental version.
