The Motherland Riddim – Various Artists

At this point in the 2008 reggae riddim run, The Motherland Riddim lands as a compact three-cut set with a warm, rootsy pulse rather than a noisy dancehall push. Irie Love and Bay C’s “Sunshine” opens the ride with an easy uplift, Kris Kelli’s “Back To Black” darkens the mood a little without losing the groove, and Omar Reid’s “Love Time” closes it on a softer, more reflective note. The production credit is kept broad here, which fits the project’s modest scale, but the sequencing gives it a clear arc: bright, then brooding, then mellow. By the time “Love Time” rolls out, the riddim has settled into that steady, late-2000s reggae pocket that favoured melody over flash.
