TAXI RIDDIM produced by Sly & Robbie, Orville “Rorey” Baker and K. Asonuma for Taxi Records.
Taxi Overview
In 2006, a group of talented musicians and producers gathered in the studio to create a roots reggae instrumental that would soon become a favorite. The roots selector wanted a sound that felt both classic and fresh, using heavy bass and strong rhythms. The creative direction was about blending old-school reggae with new ideas, keeping the music alive for a new generation. The production team was led by Sly and Robbie, famous for their work in reggae since the late 1970s. Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare, known as “The Riddim Twins,” have played on and produced countless hits, working with stars like Black Uhuru and Grace Jones. They teamed up with Orville "Rorey" Baker and K. Asonuma for Taxi Records, a label that has released many important reggae tracks over the years. On this riddim, several big artists brought their own style. Baby Cham delivered “Babylon Bway,” adding his signature energy. Beenie Man, known for his Grammy Award-winning album “Art and Life,” gave fans “Mi Dis Mavado.” Beres Hammond, a legend in lovers rock, joined with Buju Banton for “Mood To Kill A Sound.” Bounty Killer, a major dancehall figure, performed “Yappin.” Buju Banton, famous for songs like “Driver A,” also joined the project. This roots instrumental, created in 2006, still carries the true spirit of reggae, mixing tradition with new vibes for everyone to enjoy.
