TALKING RIDDIM produced by GARGAMEL 1997
Talking Overview
Talking Riddim was born in Jamaica’s dancehall scene in 1997. When it arrived, DJs across the island could not get enough of it. The riddim quickly became a favorite in parties and on the radio. Its strong beat and catchy style made it stand out among other releases that year. Some of dancehall’s biggest names gave their voices to this riddim. Buju Banton and Beenie Man teamed up for the song “Principle.” Both are well-known in the reggae world. Buju Banton, for example, is famous for his classic album “’Til Shiloh,” which helped bring roots reggae back into dancehall in the 1990s. Beenie Man is known for winning the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album in 2001. Buju Banton also delivered a solo track on this riddim called “Talking.” His deep voice and strong lyrics added even more energy. Jason Sweetness joined the lineup with “I’ve Seen It With My Own Eyes,” bringing his own smooth style to the project. Behind the mixing board was GARGAMEL, a producer with a big impact on dancehall. GARGAMEL is the label founded by Buju Banton, and it has released several important works in reggae and dancehall. With his direction, Talking Riddim became a classic that is still remembered by fans today.
