Built around the classic Shank I Sheck rhythm, this various-artists dancehall collection spans recordings from the mid-1960s through the 2000s and pulls together cuts from different labels around one of Jamaica’s most enduring grooves. Baba Brooks’ original Shank I Sheck instrumental sits at the heart of it, and the rhythm’s later life is well represented by Admiral Bailey’s Winey Winey, Beenie Man’s Bad Man, and Beres Hammond’s Show It Off. The lineup mixes early ska-rooted foundation with later dancehall energy, which is exactly why this riddim stayed in rotation across so many eras.
