Orgasm Riddim (2000) – B-Rich Records

Richard “Shams” Browne was already a rising force in dancehall when he put out Orgasm Riddim in 2000 through B-Rich Records, the label he had just launched that summer. The juggling fed directly into the era’s radio-ready, party-first sound and later got wider exposure through VP’s Real Sex 2000 compilation. Shams would go on to become one of the scene’s most consistent producers, but Orgasm is the early B-Rich statement that put his name in circulation.

The riddim itself has that turn-of-the-millennium dancehall bounce: stripped-down but heavy, built for fast chatting, with a slick, synthetic pulse underneath the bass. The subject matter follows the title’s winkingly sexual frame, with girls, flexing, and street bravado running through the standout cuts.

Lexxus’ Full Hundred, Elephant Man’s Truths Hurts, Mr Vegas’ Girls Time, General Degree’s Woman, Hawkeye’s Yuh No Beg, Red Rat’s Little Miss Buffet, and Tanto Metro and Devonte’s Suzie are the songs that really map the project’s range. Beenie Man’s Circumstances adds extra weight, especially in the remix featuring Ricky Rudie, while T. O. K. ’s Ginseng and Buccaneer’s Slow Motion help round out a set that blends swagger with club pressure. The full line-up also includes Alozade, Chico, Kiprich, Mega Banton, Mr Easy, Monster Shack Crew, Jack-A-Diamond, Ghost, and Mr B, which shows how broadly the rhythm was serviced across the scene.
