Old Ting Riddim (2013) – Monstapiece

Old, sweet and stubbornly danceable, the Old Ting Riddim pulls that classic Crop Over energy into a bright, brass-tipped soca groove with enough bounce for the road and enough bite for the fete. Peter Coppin’s Monstapiece production lines up six voices without crowding the riddim, and the stronger cuts come from Blaxx’s rum-soaked “Ten To One, ” Devon Mathews’ sharp-edged “Busy, ” and Edwin Yearwood’s cheeky “Ya Begging. ” Lil Rick keeps the pressure on with “Shut Ya Mouth, ” while Kerwin Du Bois and Fadda Fox add their own styles without breaking the flow. Released in 2013, it lands right in that Barbados-heavy moment when soca was leaning hard into catchy hooks, big percussion and party-ready choruses for the summer circuit.
