2017 was still a busy year for roots-minded reggae riddims, and Night Fever fits neatly into that moment with a seven-artist juggling built around one instrumental cut from BBS Records. Zyahn opens with the reflective pull of “My Own Energy, ” while Kaya Omega’s “Good Man” and Sojurnah’s “The Truth” keep the mood conscious and straight to the point. Bad Sarge gets two chances to work the rhythm, first on “Wife” and later on “Vengance, ” giving the project a little extra weight in the middle of the sequence. The production keeps the same tune moving from voice to voice before closing with the bare riddim, which feels like a deliberate way to let the arrangement breathe and show the frame behind the songs.
