Mr Brown Riddim came out in 2012 from Shadyville and Donsome Records, with a rootsy update on the classic Mr. Brown idea that was made famous by the Wailers in the early 1970s. The lineup mixes veterans and rising names, including Beenie Man, Tanya Stephens, Turbulence, Natural Black, Lukie D and Perfect, with strong cuts like Turbulence’s In Jah We Trust, Natural Black’s Tune In and Tanya Stephens’ Dirty Thoughts. Half Pint’s Last Night, Kristopher’s Because of You and Frisko Kid’s Don’t Give Up add more variety to a set that leans melodic and conscious. Shadyville and Donsome were working this as a collaborative reggae project, and the riddim had enough reach to pull in a deep cast across the genre.
