Reverb Riddim – Hevs Records

Hevs Records’ Reverb Riddim lands in the middle of the label’s busy 2017 dancehall run, and it’s a compact one: seven cuts, five artists, plus the instrumental. The vibe is straight-up dancehall, with Junior Mafia’s “Gal Weh Can F***” bringing the rougher edge, while Kelilah and Shu Shu both get extra room through clean and raw versions of “One Touch” and “Buy Some Traps. ” That split version approach gives the set a little more sting, especially on the raw takes, where the vocals sit a bit more naked over the rhythm. Leanny Frass keeps “Africa” moving with a more direct, commanding feel, and the riddim itself has that punchy, no-frills energy Hevs was pushing across a string of releases around that period. It’s a small but telling snapshot of the label’s 2017 output.
