Ironic Riddim – Hevs Records

Eight cuts deep, Ironic Riddim keeps the focus tight and rowdy, with Bareface’s “Heart Fulla Pain, ” Junior Keys’ “More Gyal, ” and Leanny Frass’ “Wine For Me” doing most of the heavy lifting across the set. The vibe is straight-up dancehall, but there’s a sharp, uneasy edge to the instrumental that suits the title and gives the singers room to play with tension and swagger. Colo Colo’s “Trash and Ready” and RG Ironic’s “Gweh Covid Shu Shu” lean into the project’s more playful side, while Kamari’s “Nuff Girl” keeps the women-chasing energy moving. Hevs Records put this one out in 2021, right in the middle of a period when small, independent riddims were still driving plenty of the scene’s day-to-day output, and this one lands like a compact, no-frills juggling built for the dance.
