MILITANCY RIDDIM produced by OVERSTAND ENTERTAINMENT 2013
Militancy Overview
Back in 2013, the reggae scene felt a strong revival with the release of the Militancy Riddim. This project was brought to life by OVERSTAND ENTERTAINMENT, a label known for its modern roots productions and collaborations with some of reggae’s most respected voices. Overstand Entertainment, led by producer Amlak, had already made a mark with a fresh but classic approach to reggae, always keeping the roots foundation in focus. The heartbeat of the Militancy Riddim is its one drop base—a rhythmic pattern that echoes the golden era of reggae. This base was carefully crafted in the studio, using live instruments to capture that deep, earthy sound. The one drop style is all about the drum hitting on the third beat, giving reggae its signature swing and heavy groove. Sound systems across Jamaica and beyond picked up on this riddim, and it soon became a favorite for selectors and fans. Each artist on the Militancy Riddim brought something unique. Jah Cure delivered “Territory,” a song filled with powerful vocals and heartfelt lyrics. Protoje’s “Resist Not Evil” brought thoughtful words and a steady flow. Chezidek’s “Damage” stood out with its rootsy energy. Kabaka Pyramid shared “The Revival,” adding his conscious style. Iba Mahr’s “Step Away” brought soulful melodies. The project also featured Jesse Royal with “Preying On The Weak,” Dre Island’s “Uptown Downtown,” King Mas with “False Doctrine,” and Gregory Morris closing with “Militancy Dub Mix.” From its creation to its release, the Militancy Riddim showed how the one drop base remains a vital part of reggae. It connected classic sounds with a new generation, keeping the roots strong and alive.
