Middle East Riddim (2004) – Black House Records

Black House Records’ Middle East Riddim came out in 2004 and sits squarely in that fast, hard early-2000s dancehall pocket: clipped drums, a menacing bassline, and enough space for the deejays to chop, bark, and flex without the groove ever thinning out. The riddim is credited to Daniel Lewis and Buccaneer, which fits the label’s run of sharp, clash-ready production from the period.

The strongest cuts come from the names that were driving the scene at the time. Bounty Killer’s “Target” brings the usual authority and militant phrasing. Busy Signal’s “No Chat” catches him in the middle of his breakout stretch, already sounding locked into the no-nonsense singjay style that would carry him forward. Elephant Man’s “It In Deh” injects his trademark party energy, while Mr. Vegas’ “Dont You Worry” gives the rhythm a lighter, hookier lift. Buccaneer himself, on “Strong, ” helps anchor the project from the producer side and keeps the riddim’s streetwise edge intact.

Elsewhere, Kiprich, Looga Man, Mavado, Predator, Red Rat, Sizzla, Vybz Kartel, Sean Paul, and others widen the set into a proper juggling session, with each voice leaning into the same tense, propulsive framework in a different way.
