ILL NA NA RIDDIM produced by EAST COAST 1997
Ill Na Na Overview
In 1997, the streets of Kingston and beyond pulsed with the sound of bashment dancehall. The Ill Na Na Riddim quickly became a favorite at late-night parties. Its street anthem base captured the real energy of dancehall, making it unforgettable for fans and selectors. The beat was crafted by producer EAST COAST, a name known for bringing fresh sounds to the dancehall scene. EAST COAST worked with several labels and helped shape the sound of late-90s Jamaican music. The riddim’s heavy bass and catchy hooks made it stand out, and it soon became a foundation for big hits. Anthony B’s “Never Weary Yet” brought his signature conscious lyrics to the riddim. Anthony B is respected for songs like “Fire Pon Rome” and has been a strong voice in reggae and dancehall since the 1990s. Spragga Benz and Greg Hines teamed up for “Hot Gal Flexing,” adding a playful, party vibe. Spragga Benz is well known for his classic “Jack It Up” and collaborations with international artists. General Degree and Lady Saw delivered “Who Badda,” mixing sharp lyrics and Lady Saw’s powerful style. Lady Saw, often called the Queen of Dancehall, later won a Grammy for her work on No Doubt’s “Underneath It All.” Beenie Man, a true dancehall king, gave fans “My Girls Dem” and “Sister Dawn.” Beenie Man’s album “Art and Life” won a Grammy in 2001. Mad Cobra’s “Cheap Clothes” added more edge, while Merciless with “Nuh Tee Nah Grow” and Future Troubles with “Nuh Deh Pon It” kept the dancefloor moving. Each song on Ill Na Na Riddim helped define the bashment energy that made 1997 a special year for dancehall.
