HOMEMADE RIDDIM produced by STAR TRAIL 1999
Homemade Overview
In 1999, a new reggae rhythm began its journey in Kingston’s busy studios. This foundation rhythm was shaped by culture arranger Fattis Burrell, known for his deep roots in reggae’s history. The producer behind the project was STAR TRAIL, a label respected for its work with top reggae and dancehall artists. STAR TRAIL had already made waves in the 1990s with albums from Luciano and Capleton, building a strong reputation for quality roots music. As the rhythm grew, it attracted voices ready to add their stories. Anthony B stepped forward with “Free,” bringing the powerful energy he was known for from hits like “Fire Pon Rome.” Goldie Natch delivered “Amateur,” adding a fresh but soulful touch. The collaboration of Iyashanti and Buju Banton on “Jah Jah Say” gave the project a deep, spiritual vibe. Buju Banton, famous for his Grammy-winning album “Before the Dawn,” brought his signature style to the mix. Jah Mason’s “Inna Da Time Yah” and Lexus with “Any Necessary Means” each added their own flavor, reflecting the mood of the roots sessions that year. Norrisman’s “Things And Time,” Paul Elliott’s “Leaders Mistake,” and Spanner Banner’s “Give Thanks” completed the lineup, each artist leaving a mark on the rhythm. From creation to release, the project captured the spirit of 1999’s reggae scene.
