    Hill & Gully (2026) Release Details

    Di Genius keeps proving he understands how to turn a familiar Jamaican melody into something that feels current rather than archival. Hill and Gully Riddim takes its name and spirit from the old Hill and Gully folk refrain, but the treatment is unmistakably dancehall: crisp, low-slung, and tuned for modern party rotation. The sample of that heritage is front and center on Masicka’s “Slip and Slide, ” which has also been moving strongly on streaming and chart platforms since its April 24, 2026 release. The riddim started with Masicka and continued expanding with more artists as the project gained attention online. The record works because it doesn’t overplay the nostalgia; it uses the old-school reference as a hook and then lets Masicka do what he does best, cutting through with sharp phrasing and a confident, slippery cadence.

    That same balance of legacy and new-generation pull is what gives the riddim its shape. Valiant’s “Woii” brings the newer wave into the frame with the kind of streetwise bounce that has made him one of dancehall’s most visible voices. Elephant Man’s “Hold Him Gyal” injects veteran energy and pure dancehall muscle, the sort of crowd-moving presence that has always been his lane. Ganggoolie’s “Gyal A So Yuh Tan” adds another important layer, anchoring the project in the long-running Jamaican deejay tradition.

    What makes the riddim interesting is how it leaves room for different kinds of artists to read the same pattern in different ways. The instrumental, credited to Di Genius himself, carries enough character to stand on its own, which matters on a juggling built around a familiar cultural phrase. There is no wasted space here. Even without trying to force a huge parade of voices, Hill and Gully Riddim already feels like one of those Di Genius concepts that can travel across generations, from the old dancehall faithful to the younger listeners hearing the phrase in a new form for the first time.
