Di Genius keeps proving he understands how to turn a familiar Jamaican melody into something that feels current rather than archival. Hill and Gully Riddim takes its name and spirit from the old Hill and Gully folk refrain, but the treatment is unmistakably dancehall: crisp, low-slung, and tuned for modern party rotation. The sample of that heritage is front and center on Masicka’s “Slip and Slide, ” which has also been moving strongly on streaming and chart platforms since its April 24, 2026 release. The riddim started with Masicka and continued expanding with more artists as the project gained attention online. The record works because it doesn’t overplay the nostalgia; it uses the old-school reference as a hook and then lets Masicka do what he does best, cutting through with sharp phrasing and a confident, slippery cadence.
That same balance of legacy and new-generation pull is what gives the riddim its shape. Valiant’s “Woii” brings the newer wave into the frame with the kind of streetwise bounce that has made him one of dancehall’s most visible voices. Elephant Man’s “Hold Him Gyal” injects veteran energy and pure dancehall muscle, the sort of crowd-moving presence that has always been his lane.
