First Born Riddim drops out of the 2010 dancehall wave with a lineup that feels rooted in that transitional moment when rugged street tunes and broader crossover hooks were both chasing the same sound. Razz and Biggy keep the production in a driving, plainspoken dancehall pocket, and the tracklist moves cleanly from Bugle’s “Love Mi A Deal Wid” and Charly Black’s “Wine So” into Flippa Mafia’s chatty “Talk Dem A Talk” and Laden’s “Come Nuh. ” The riddim also doubles up on Serani’s “Stay Far” in clean and raw versions, which gives the project a little extra pull, but the sharpest final note comes from Tony Matterhorn’s “Party People, ” a cut that brings the whole set into sharper focus.
