Fire River Overview
Cultural arranger Richard “Bello” Bell played a big part in shaping reggae’s roots sound during the 2000s. His influence can be heard clearly on productions by STAR TRAIL RECORDS, a label known for its authentic reggae releases since the early 1990s. STAR TRAIL RECORDS has worked with many top Jamaican artists and is respected for staying true to roots reggae even as trends changed. In 2006, the Fire River Riddim brought together some of reggae’s most respected voices. Buju Banton delivered “Think It's Over,” adding his strong presence to the collection. Buju Banton is well known for his Grammy-winning album "Before the Dawn" and has been a key figure in reggae and dancehall. Capleton’s “Jah Bless Us” stands out with his energetic style. Capleton, called “The Prophet,” is famous for songs like “Tour” and is known for his fiery stage shows. Chezidek’s “Give Praises” offers smooth vocals. Chezidek is recognized for his hit “Leave De Trees.” Izeezi’s “Poor Man Cry” and Josey Wales’ “Rough Times” add depth, with Josey Wales being a legendary deejay from the early dancehall era. Junior Kelly appears with “Whip Dem Jah,” known for his breakthrough single “Love So Nice.” This roots anthology showed the enduring power of roots reggae at a time when the genre was evolving. The Fire River Riddim captured both tradition and freshness in 2006’s reggae scene.
