Feelings Riddim Vol 1 (2013) – Mbada Music Zimbabwe

Feelings Riddim Vol 1 lands in that raw early-2010s Zimdancehall pocket where the rhythm does the heavy lifting and the voices bring the personality. Mbada Music keeps it moving with a bright, clipped dancehall pulse that leaves plenty of room for the chants and hooks, and the lineup gives it a proper local stamp: Soul Jah Love’s “Mbare Mbare” comes in with street-level swagger, while Seh Calaz’s “Mabhanditi” and Cally C’s “Ukaenda Very Far” lean into the kind of conversational, sharply local writing that made this era so addictive. Maggical gets two turns here, with “Vaudze Vazive” and “Bubble and Wine” showing the lighter side of the riddim, and the version cut closes the set off cleanly. With 20 tracks and 19 artists, this 2013 release feels less like a compilation than a snapshot of Mbada’s corner of Zimbabwe dancehall at full chatter.
