Dezod Production’s Summer Riddim leans more toward a sun-soaked dancehall set than a big conceptual statement, and that’s part of its charm: the groove stays bright and bouncy while the vocals do the heavy lifting, with King Youth’s “Hot Guiness, ” Supa Lion’s “Summer Time Again, ” and Tiwony’s “Still Searching” giving the riddim three different angles, from straight party talk to more melodic, reflective turns. There’s a nice stretch of multilingual flavour too, with French and Creole titles sitting beside the Jamaican patois cuts, which gives the whole thing a pan-Caribbean feel without muddying the pocket. Produced by Dezod Production in 2013, the set gathers 12 cuts in all, running from “Au Top” and “Wine For Me” through “Jah Sunshine” and “Je Suis Accro, ” and it closes out with Tiwony’s vocal riding the same easy summer pulse.
