Chromium Riddim – Cr2o3 Records

Kingston’s 2007 dancehall climate was still very much in that Mavado-versus-Kartel moment, and Chromium caught it neatly with a compact three-cut line-up that leans into the clash energy without overcomplicating things. Mavado’s “Twice A Day” is the anchor here, while Vybz Kartel’s “Work It” and Munga’s “Shake It Up” keep the pressure on over a sharp, driving instrumental that was first tagged under ZJ Chrome’s CR2O3 banner. It’s an early snapshot of Chrome’s production style before the label became a more familiar name in the dancehall circuit, and you can already hear the taste for tough, radio-ready rhythms and heavyweight voices. As a release in the CR2O3 catalogue, Chromium sits right at the point where the label was starting to define its sound.
