BLACK SHADOW RIDDIM produced by TROYTON MUSIC 1997
Black Shadow Overview
When the yard session tape featuring the Black Shadow Riddim hit the streets in 1997, dancehall fans responded with pure excitement. The tape brought a fresh, energetic sound that quickly became a favorite at parties and street corners. DJs played it non-stop, helping the riddim spread across Jamaica and beyond. The session featured standout performances from some of dancehall’s most respected names. Elephant Man’s “Warn Dem” delivered his trademark high-energy style, adding to his growing reputation as a dancehall powerhouse. General B, one of the founding members of Monster Shack Crew, brought his unique flair with “Weak Unda Your Treatment.” Ghost, known for his smooth vocals, contributed “Badman Fi Who,” while Monster Shack Crew made their mark with “Run From We.” Nitty Kutchie, who was also part of the Scare Dem Crew, added “If I Were You,” showing his versatility. Other highlights included Powerman’s “Request The Rod,” Red Rat Goofy with “Badman Crew,” and Red Rat’s solo hit “Cant Manage.” Each artist brought something special, making the tape a true showcase of 90s dancehall talent. The mastermind behind the riddim was TROYTON MUSIC, a label led by producer Troyton Rami. Troyton Rami later gained international fame for co-producing the Grammy-winning track “Gimme the Light” by Sean Paul. His early work on the Black Shadow Riddim helped shape the sound of modern dancehall. Even today, the 1997 yard session tape is kept alive by DJs who recognize its lasting impact on the genre.
