Norman Washington Jackson was born on 6 June 1960 in Kingston, Jamaica. He made his first recording in 1978 under the name Ranking Tiger, single titled “Why Can’t You Leave Dreadlocks Alone?” Jackson began working as a deejay in 1980 for Black Star Sound System and he would perform alongside fellow deejay Bruk Back and singer Anthony Malvo. In the mid 1980s, he released hit singles such as “No Wanga Gut” and “No Puppy Love”. In 1986, he was signed with Mango Records and they released his first album titled “Mi Name Tiger”. Jackson became a popular artist in Jamaica as he continued to record with producers like Sly & Robbie, King Jammy, Harry J, Gussie Clarke, Donovan Germain and Philip “Fatis” Burrell. He began producing his own music and formed his own label, Tiger Label. “Cool Me Down”, a hit single of his was featured on the soundtrack of the movie Cool Runnings. In 1989, he collaborated with the USA hip hop group Fat Boys in “T’ings Na Go So”. He was later signed by Columbia Records and he recorded “Claws Of The Cat” for the in 1993.
