Bushman was born Dwight Marvin Duncan in Prospect Beach in  St Thomas, Jamaica in 1973 and he was raised a Rastafarian. He attended Lysson All-Age School and he later attended Yallas High School and here he was a very active member of the school choir. At this same time, he was also active in the church choir. As a teen, Duncan became a selector under the name Junior Melody for the Black Star Line Studio and he took part in many talent shows and competitions at the same time.

Duncan relocated to Kingston and he met producers Steelie and Cleevie whom he impressed and they recorded him on ‘Grow Your Natty’ at Studio 2000 and this is when he was named Bushman. He recorded a follow-up hit ‘Call The Hearse’ and it was followed by his debut album ‘Nyah Man Chant’ in 1997.  Duncan then worked with producer King Jammy for his next 2 albums, ‘Total Commitment’ (1999) and ‘Higher Ground’ (2001).

These albums were also followed by more albums including “Better Place” (2002) and “My Meditation” in 2003. Another album ‘Signs’ was released in 2004 and it incorporated some touches of RnB and some pop. ‘Conquering Lion’ was released in 2012 and it featured Capleton.
