Darkness Riddim – Dreams Labs

Darkness Riddim comes off like a darker, harder-edged 2017 dancehall set than the name might suggest, with Dreams Labs lining up a compact roster around the cut-and-drive “Ready Fi Kill Dem” from Brams, the tougher “Terrible” from Ganggoolie, and Macardi’s “Seh Dem A Gangsta. ” The project also folds in doubles of a few tunes in clean and explicit versions, which gives it that raw street-mix feel rather than a polished showcase. Dreams Labs keeps the arrangement lean, letting the percussion and bass carry the mood instead of crowding the riddim with extra ornament, and the instrumental at the end makes the whole thing feel like a proper producer’s release. In the middle of the decade, this sat nicely alongside the label’s other dancehall work: focused, grimy, and made for selectors who like their riddims with a little menace.
