X5 Riddim (2002) – Rattler Records

X5 Riddim came out in 2002 on Rattler Records, with Peter Jackson, better known as Galaxy P, behind the production. It later circulated through the Riddim Driven series, which helped push the juggling beyond the local circuit and into wider dancehall rotation. The riddim sits right in that early-2000s era when hard-edged digital dancehall was still ruling the dance and the clash.

The sound is sharp, springy, and built for rapid-fire voicing. It has that tense, forward-driving feel that leaves plenty of room for artists to cut loose with hyping, bragging, flirting, and threat talk. Capleton’s Tek It Off, Lady Saw’s Bad Girl, and Elephant Man and Wayne Marshall’s After All are the cuts that immediately frame the juggling’s energy: Capleton comes in with militant heat, Lady Saw brings her usual no-nonsense attitude, and the Elephant Man-Wayne Marshall pairing gives the rhythm one of its most memorable combinations. Frisco Kid’s Fight Back, Harry Toddler’s Mr Stiff Tongue, and Galaxy P and Ward 21’s Good keep the pressure on with straight dancehall swagger.

The lineup is deep enough to show how well the rhythm moved across different voices. Anthony Cruz, Christopher, Gabriel, Powerman, Rempage, Roundhead, Sizzla, and Ward 21 all add their own angles, while Danny English with Unknown on Real Hot Girl gives the set one of its rawer party cuts.
