VERGIN GIGGY RIDDIM produced by COLLIN FAT RECORDS 1991
Vergin Giggy Overview
COLLIN FAT RECORDS was the label behind one of the biggest dancehall riddims of 1991. Known for shaping the sound of the era, the label was led by producer Collin “Fat” York. Collin Fat Records was already respected in Jamaica for helping launch many artists’ careers and for producing classic hits like Sanchez’s “Loneliness.” The 1991 bashment project brought together a powerful line-up. Ghost, General B, and Roundhead teamed up for “Round,” a track that quickly became a street anthem. Each artist brought their own style, making the song stand out at dances and on the airwaves. Simpleton added his own flavor with “Cocoa Cola Shape,” a song that later became his signature hit and is still recognized for its catchy hook. Other artists also left their mark on the riddim. Joseph Stepper delivered “Wife You A Di Wife,” while Powerman’s “Stone” added a rougher edge. Baby Wayne, who would later be known for his socially conscious lyrics, contributed “Mamma.” Mad Cobra, who scored a Billboard Hot 100 hit with “Flex” in 1992, appeared here with “Shot No Talk.” Singing Sweet, who gained fame for his cover of “When I See You Smile,” gave the riddim a smoother touch. The riddim’s infectious beat was crafted by talented musicians under Collin Fat’s direction. Its mix of party vibes and street energy made it a favorite for selectors. Even decades later, the 1991 project remains a must-play in dancehall sessions, proving its lasting impact on the genre.
