Nine cuts deep with T. O. K, Determine, Ill Inspecta, New Kingston and a handful of cross-border voices, The Outlaw Riddim is one of those Bassrunner productions that feels like it was cut for soundsystem play first. The Austrian crew behind it pushed out the series in late 2008, and the lineup mixes established dancehall names with European and newer acts, which gives the project a slightly wider cast than the average one-riddim package. The rhythm itself carries that bouncing, dynamic late-2000s dancehall feel, all skittering percussion, thick low-end pressure and a nagging groove that keeps the deejays riding the pocket. T. O. K’s “Push It” and Determine’s “Blast It” fit the frame neatly, while Bongo Chili and Benjie lean into the sharper, more clipped vocal attack that suits the riddim’s brisk tempo.
