From the European reggae circuit in 2005, Burning Riddim catches Bassrunner Productions in a compact, three-cut format that still feels full of movement. The instrumental has a warm, rolling reggae pulse with a dry edge in the drums and enough low end to keep it driving rather than sleepy, which gives each vocal a different angle to work with. El Condorsito and Taffari open it up with the title tune “Burning, ” while Ill Inspecta and Bobby Buster push a rougher, more urgent tone on “Heartis. ” Nosliw teaming with Maxim on “Gut Gemeint” adds a German-language lift that ties the whole thing back to the region’s early-2000s roots reggae push, when European crews were making their own lane with sharp, roots-conscious singles.
