Shankz Riddim – Ati Music

In 2014, Birmingham’s ATi Music pushed out Shankz Riddim as a modern nod to the old Shank I Sheck swing, and the roots of that idea still carry through in the cut. The riddim has that springy, mid-tempo dancehall pulse with a rough-edged bounce, leaving space for the vocals to jab through rather than drowning them in studio gloss. Frisco Kid’s “Run From Dem” is the obvious heavyweight here, while Hollow Point’s “Bad Man Party” and Kibaki’s “To My Brain” keep the energy sharp from different angles. Chillavert and Dan Peshie both return with hardcore and radio mixes, and Yootie B’s “Inna Birmingham” gives the set a local stamp that ties the whole thing back to the UK dancehall lane. It’s the kind of compilation that sat neatly in that early-2010s wave of producer-led riddims chasing both street pressure and clean radio play.
