Mind Therapy Riddim – Danger Zone Records

Danger Zone Records brought Mind Therapy Riddim out in 2013 under the Danger Zone Rebirth banner, with Delmar Drummond steering the project. The label had already built a reputation around Kingston-rooted reggae and dancehall work, and this one sits right in that tradition: a straight-ahead roots-driven juggling built for conscious voices and heavyweight names.

The rhythm has a firm, marching pulse and a warm live-band feel, with enough space in the arrangement for the vocals to breathe. It feels less glossy than a crossover reggae set and more like a sound-system record, the sort of cut that wants a selector to ride it for a full segment. The mood stays serious and reflective, and the songs circle struggle, faith, hurt, and perseverance rather than party chatter.

Capleton’s “Have To Sew” brings his fiery delivery into the fold, while Cocoa Tea’s “Gone Away” gives the riddim a smoother veteran contrast. Natty King’s “Press On” fits the conscious side of the set especially well, and Iba Mahr’s “She Cries” adds a younger roots voice with emotional pull. Vybz Kartel’s “Jah Jah Watch Over Me” is a notable curveball too, since he was already a dominant dancehall name by then, and hearing him ride a reggae framework gives the compilation extra reach.

Chuck Fenda, Turbulence, Ras Charmer, Jigsy King, Little Hero and Peas Head, Cressy, and Shanhill fill out a broad cast, but the release is strongest when it settles into those roots-heavy, prayerful cuts. It is a 2013 riddim with enough veteran weight and enough modern edge to keep moving between eras without losing its center.
