Set It Off Riddim – Smartkid Records

A Kingston-set 2017 dancehall cut, Set It Off Riddim comes off like a small but sharply focused session from Smartkid Records, with that raw inner-city energy running through the whole thing. Beenie Man’s “Be Yourself” is the pull here, sliding over a hard-driving groove that leaves room for the drums and bass to do the heavy lifting, while Lutan Fyah’s “Coffee and Cream” brings a more conscious edge without softening the riddim’s bite. Jojo Mac’s “Bottom Of The Ladder” keeps the tension up, and Smartkid’s own instrumental is the kind of rhythm bed that makes the project feel more like a working yard tape than a polished showcase. The bonus mixpack tacks on a loose final stretch, almost as an extra wind-down.
