Coxsone Dodd’s Studio One cut Rocking Time in 1974, and this later various-label showcase pulls that foundation back into focus through versions from Burning Spear, Al Campbell, Gregory Isaacs, George Nooks, Fantan Mojah and others. Burning Spear’s original Rocking Time anchors the set, while tracks like Gregory Isaacs’ False Evidence and Al Campbell’s Sell Out show how long the rhythm kept travelling across roots and modern reggae. With its deep Studio One heritage and later interpretations from labels such as Powerhouse, Irie Ites, Heavy Beat and VP, it remains a recognisable slice of one of reggae’s most durable riddims.
