Riddim Buster Volume 1: Who Cares Riddim runs on that early-2000s reggae sweet spot where conscious lyrics and a Rockfort Rock-style backbone keep the energy lifted without getting frantic. Wade Brammer and Jimmy Ricks put the tune out on 2 Miles, and the lineup does the rest: Luciano’s “Be Of Good Courage, ” Natty King’s “No Guns To Town, ” and Capleton’s “I See Them Quaking” all sit right in the pocket, while Chuck Fender and Determine push the message songs with proper urgency. There’s enough variety in the vocal delivery to keep the rhythm feeling fresh across the set, but the project keeps circling back to that sturdy, militant swing. It closes out with a clean run from Mr Lexx’s “Nutten Nah Gwaan” into the instrumental-style finish of the riddim itself, which leaves the whole thing with a neat dub-plate energy.
