Jah Love Riddim (2004) – Uplift Records

Jah Love Riddim keeps its focus tight: just four cuts, two voices, and a clean roots pulse that doesn’t waste a second. Uplift Records pairs Determine’s “King Of Kings” with Murray Man’s “Jah Love, ” and that combination gives the riddim a nice push-pull between militant edge and warmer, more meditative phrasing. The two vocal dubs make the package feel a little more like a small session than a big compilation, which suits the early-2000s feel of it. Determine’s cut lands as the sharper hook for me, while Murray Man rides the groove with a steadier, more contemplative touch. A modest release, maybe, but it has that compact, hand-to-hand energy you only really get from a lean one-riddim set.
