Rainii Weather Riddim – One Way Records

Out of Kingston in early 2016, Rainii Weather Riddim came through on One Way Records and Sartout Records with a slick, mid-tempo dancehall cut that feels made for the spring season it dropped in. Patexx gets the first swing with “Suh Tight, ” then doubles up with Raine Seville on “Waan Know, ” which gives the riddim its most immediate hook; Maestro Don’s “Control Mi” and Frizzy’s “Hard Or Soft” keep the energy in that flirtatious, streetwise pocket, while D’vercity and Diiverse add their own sharper edges. The production leans bright and breezy rather than raw, with a light bounce underneath the vocals that keeps the whole juggling moving cleanly. It landed as a compact seven-track set, right in the middle of dancehall’s run of lean, vocal-led riddims in 2016.
