Span Riddim – Uptown Skunkaz|Swingkids

A taut, rolling dancehall cut with a slightly stripped-back, underground feel, Span Riddim has that no-nonsense energy that lets the vocalists work the pocket instead of fighting the rhythm. General Knas opens with “E Den Jag E, ” and Charly Chanter’s title tune gives the set one of its sharper hooks, while I-King and Hassman keep the pressure on with voices that sit cleanly over the beat. Uptown Skunkaz and Swingkids keep the lineup compact here, and the six-track run leaves room for the instrumental version to breathe without dragging the pace. Compared with the older Uptown Skunkaz material that turned up on Train Riddim, this one feels a little leaner and more direct. It sits neatly in that mid-2010s pocket of small, producer-led dancehall projects where the riddim, not the guest list, does the heavy lifting.
