Promise Overview
In 2008, the Promise Riddim became a favorite in sound system culture. Selectors loved playing it at weekend sessions and midweek gatherings. The Promise Riddim comes from BUFFBOO RECORDS, a label known for quality roots reggae productions. BUFFBOO RECORDS started making music in the early 2000s and became well-known for working with both rising and established artists. On the sound systems, selectors played the Promise Riddim to keep the crowd moving. Its warm bassline and rootsy vibe fit perfectly into sets that celebrated classic reggae sounds. Selectors liked how each version on the riddim brought something different, keeping listeners interested. Cecile’s "Nobody" stood out on the riddim for its strong lyrics and smooth delivery. Cecile is a Jamaican singer who gained international attention with her distinctive voice and songs like "Can You Do Di Wuk," her collaboration with Sean Paul. Another popular cut was Be with "I Dont Want U," featuring heartfelt vocals that connected well with fans. Peter Runks offered "Badness Out Of Style," bringing a conscious message over the deep rhythm. Shacara’s "Stupid" added a bold energy to the lineup, giving selectors a track to lift the vibes. Lady Saw—known as the Queen of Dancehall—delivered "Where He Is." Lady Saw is famous for breaking barriers in dancehall music; she won a Grammy Award in 2002 for her work on No Doubt’s album "Rock Steady." Each of these artists gave their own style to the Promise Riddim.
