Originally produced by Scotty and Derrick Harriott for Crystal, Cancer in 1968, Penny For Your Song Riddim gathers a compact set of cuts that moves through the years with vocals and dubs from The Federals, Scotty, The Crystalites, U Roy, Linval Thompson and The Charriot. The Federals’ 1968 original anchors the set, while Scotty’s own version and U Roy’s dub cut bring the release into the early-to-mid 1970s. Derrick Harriott’s Crystal imprint and his work with Scotty sit at the center of the riddim’s story, and the title tune later turned up again through Linval Thompson’s 1976 take.
